Left Hand Twill Selvedge is a 13.75 oz Japanese selvedge denim, rope-dyed in indigo and woven on traditional shuttle looms. What distinguishes this fabric from standard denim is the weave direction: whereas most jeans are woven in right hand twill, this is a left hand twill – and that makes a noticeable difference.
The secret lies in the interplay between the weave and the yarn's natural Z-twist. In a right hand twill, this twist is further tightened during weaving, resulting in a stiffer fabric. In a left hand twill, the weave direction works against the yarn's twist, which opens up the fibers and makes the denim noticeably softer and more pliable – faster than most other raw denims.
The fading is as characteristic as the fabric itself. While standard denim fades flat and evenly, left hand twill develops vertical, streaky fades with a distinct vintage expression. The deep rope-dye indigo ensures dramatic contrasts between light wear points and a dark core over time.
