1927 Shop Apron 11oz metal
The 1927 Shop Apron from Pike Brothers is a classic workshop apron inspired by workwear worn by craftsmen in the 1920s. Aprons like this were common in workshops for shoemakers, carpenters, and mechanics, where clothes needed to be protected from dirt, metal dust, and sparks during work.
The design follows a traditional construction with spacious front pockets for tools and a robust denim quality developed for daily use in workshop environments. The apron can be quickly put on over regular clothes when doing a job without putting on full workwear.
The material is strong enough to withstand heavy use, while the denim fabric softens and develops character over time.
About the Denim Fabric
The apron is made from 11oz selvedge denim in 100% cotton. This weight provides a fabric that is solid enough to protect against dirt and wear, but still flexible enough to be comfortable to wear.
Selvedge denim is woven on traditional shuttle looms that produce fabric in narrower widths with a finished woven edge – the selvedge. This method creates a tighter and more durable weave, while the fabric develops a distinct patina through use.
Denim has long been used in workwear precisely because the material combines durability, flexibility, and longevity.

The History Behind Workshop Aprons
Aprons have been a part of skilled trades for several centuries. In the early 1900s, heavy cotton fabrics like denim and canvas became common materials because they could withstand hard use in workshops and factories.
Such aprons protected clothes from metal shavings, oil, dirt, and sparks, while also providing the craftsman with practical pockets for tools and small parts. Today, workshop aprons are still used by mechanics, carpenters, and other craftsmen – both for function and as part of the classic workwear tradition.
