Yatagarasu Selvedge is a 15 oz Japanese selvedge denim inspired by Yatagarasu – the mythological three-legged crow and Shinto god of guidance and navigation. It's a fitting name for a fabric that guides you from darkness towards light.
Like Solid Black, the warp is sulfur-dyed black, providing a deep, rich tone from day one. But where Solid Black is black throughout in both warp and weft, the weft here is white – and this contrast is the whole point. As the denim fades with wear, the white weft begins to emerge at the points of abrasion, creating dramatic, high-contrast fades that are unique to each wearer. The harder the denim is worn, the more spectacular the result.
The leather patch deserves its own paragraph: natural vegetable-tanned leather with metallic black foil art by acclaimed Canadian artist Jacqui Oakley – a design directly inspired by Yatagarasu mythology.
