The 1942 Tanker Jacket Utah from Pike Brothers is a technical reproduction of the "Jacket, Combat, Winter," crafted from 10 oz cotton poplin with a heavy 13 oz wool lining for optimal warmth.
The 1942 Tanker Jacket, officially designated as Jacket, Combat, Winter by the US military, was introduced in 1941 as part of a winter set for armored vehicle crews. The jacket quickly became favored by both soldiers and officers due to its functional design and a more relaxed appearance than other uniform jackets of the period. After the war, this design became one of the most copied military garments in the world due to its combination of simplicity and high functionality.
This specific Utah edition is based on privately customized examples from the 1940s. Officers often made small adjustments to give the jacket a more personal and refined look. Our version therefore features a thicker, blanket-type wool lining with a basis weight of 440 g/m² (13 oz) for extra insulation. The jacket is constructed without a bi-swing back or action back, resulting in a cleaner and sharper silhouette. The outer fabric is a durable cotton poplin at 330 g/m² (10 oz), providing good weather protection while keeping the garment pliable in use.
