Sashiko Maru Bishamon Cardboard Stencil Set – Stencil for Sashiko Embroidery
The Maru Bishamon cardboard template set is a tool for drawing the traditional Japanese Maru-Bishamon pattern for sashiko embroidery. The set makes it easy to mark the pattern on fabric without having to draw complex grids by hand.
Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique historically used to strengthen and repair clothes, often with white thread on indigo-dyed cotton. Over time, the technique also evolved into decorative patterns and textiles.
With the cardboard templates, the pattern can be built up gradually. You mark the motif with a fabric pencil or a water-soluble pen, and then sew along the marking with sashiko stitches. This makes it possible to freely place the pattern on clothes or patches and experiment with size and composition.
About the pattern
Maru Bishamon is a geometric sashiko motif made up of arcs and circles that form a repeating pattern. Sashiko patterns are often inspired by natural forms or symbols associated with work, protection, and daily life in Japanese textile tradition.
The result is a decorative and functional pattern that is particularly well suited for visible mending, quilting, or decorating denim, canvas, and other sturdy cotton fabrics.
